How it works
How yes or no tarot works
A yes or no tarot spread is a single card. Each of the 78 cards leans yes, no or maybe, and the line under the answer says why and what to do next.
Ask a closed question
Questions that can be answered with yes or no work best: “Should I apply for this job?” rather than “What will happen at work?”
Draw one card
Keep your question in mind and pick any card from the fan. In yes or no tarot one card gives a direct answer, with no positions arguing with each other.
Read the answer and the why
Bright cards like the Sun lean yes, heavy ones like the Tower lean no. A reversed card usually delays or softens the answer, and maybe means the situation is still moving.
The card gives you something to think about. The decision, and the responsibility for it, stays with you.
The 22 Major Arcana
Which tarot cards mean yes, no or maybe
Every card has an answer upright and reversed. The table shows the 22 Major Arcana; the 56 minor cards follow the same rules in the reading above.
| № | Card | Upright | Reversed | Why |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| 0 | The Fool | Yes | Maybe | A new start. Try something unfamiliar today: a different route, a new dish, a first class. |
| I | The Magician | Yes | No | You already have what this needs. Start today with a step that takes less than an hour. |
| II | The High Priestess | Maybe | No | The answer isn't on the surface yet. Before deciding, take five quiet minutes and write down your first thought. |
| III | The Empress | Yes | Maybe | A day to look after living things: water the plants, cook a slow dinner, go to bed on time. |
| IV | The Emperor | Yes | Maybe | Order gives you footing. Make a three-point plan for the week and stick to it until Friday. |
| V | The Hierophant | Yes | Maybe | Ask someone who has walked this road: a mentor, an experienced colleague, the author of a good book. |
| VI | The Lovers | Yes | No | A time to choose. Before you decide, check that what you want matches what matters to you. |
| VII | The Chariot | Yes | No | Hold your course. Pick one goal for today and let everything else wait until evening. |
| VIII | Strength | Yes | Maybe | Gentleness beats force. In an argument today, speak calmly and let the other person finish. |
| IX | The Hermit | No | Maybe | Time for yourself. Turn off notifications for an hour and think about the question you keep putting off. |
| X | Wheel of Fortune | Yes | No | Things are shifting. Look at what didn't go to plan today and whether it opened a new option. |
| XI | Justice | Maybe | No | A day for fair decisions. Before you answer, write the facts down separately from the guesses. |
| XII | The Hanged Man | Maybe | No | Things are on hold, and the pause can help. Look at the situation through someone else's eyes. |
| XIII | Death | No | Maybe | A chapter is closing, which frees up room. Finish one old task completely this week. |
| XIV | Temperance | Yes | Maybe | A steady pace helps. Split the big task into parts and do just one today. |
| XV | The Devil | No | Maybe | Something holds on tighter than you'd like: a habit, a feed, extra spending. Pick one and limit it today. |
| XVI | The Tower | No | Maybe | Whatever rests on assumptions may wobble. Find the weakest spot in your plan and shore it up in advance. |
| XVII | The Star | Yes | Maybe | Hope and energy are returning. Remember what used to make you happy and find half an hour for it today. |
| XVIII | The Moon | Maybe | Yes | The picture is still unclear, and worry fills in the gaps. Hold off on big decisions until you have facts. |
| XIX | The Sun | Yes | Yes | A clear, warm day. Tell someone nearby something kind and do what you've been wanting to do. |
| XX | Judgement | Yes | Maybe | Time to return to something you set aside. Write down the first step today, while you remember why it mattered. |
| XXI | The World | Yes | Maybe | A cycle is complete. Write down what you achieved in it, then take on something new. |
FAQ
Questions about yes or no tarot
Is a yes or no tarot reading accurate?
A card doesn't know the future and doesn't promise an outcome. It gives a lean toward yes or no and a reason worth checking against what you already know. Treat the answer as a second opinion.
What questions work best?
Short, closed questions about one situation: work, love, a decision for this week. “Should I call today and apologize?” works better than “What's ahead for me?”. If you get maybe, sharpen the question or ask again tomorrow.
What does a reversed card mean?
About one card in four comes up reversed. A reversal usually delays or softens the answer: yes becomes maybe, and no softens to maybe.
Is it free? Do I need to sign up?
Yes. There's no sign-up, no email and no payment. Your question stays on your device and is gone when you close the page.
The reading helps you think a question through. It doesn't replace advice from a doctor, lawyer, financial adviser or therapist.
