What's on the card
A winged angel in a white robe with a square and triangle on the chest pours water from one cup into another. One foot rests on the bank and the other in the water, irises bloom nearby, and a path leads to the mountains under a crown-shaped light.
Temperance upright
Temperance is about the middle path and the knack of combining different things: work and rest, old and new, your wishes and other people's. The card speaks of patience and gradual progress, where results build from small, precise steps. Rushing only gets in the way here. If your team is arguing about deadlines, propose an option that works for both sides and review it after a week.
Temperance reversed
The reversed Temperance shows things tipping too far: too much work, spending or coffee, or the opposite, total apathy. Balance is lost gradually, and you can win it back step by step too. Pick the one area where the excess is most obvious and cut it in half.
Temperance in love and relationships
In love, Temperance speaks of harmony and the ability to find common ground. A couple settles into a shared rhythm, and small arguments end in compromise. If you're single, the card suggests not rushing a new connection and letting feelings grow at their own pace.
Temperance in career and money
At work, Temperance supports teamwork, mediation and long projects that need a steady pace. Don't take on everything at once. Spread tasks across the weeks so that there's time to recover between urgent jobs.
Temperance: yes or no
Yes Yes, if you don't rush. Move in small steps and blend the old with the new instead of dropping one for the other.
Reversed. Maybe Things are lopsided: too much of one thing, too little of another. Restore balance in one area, like sleep or spending, then ask again.
Temperance as your card of the day
A day for balance and an even pace. Split your work into fifty-minute blocks with breaks, eat on time and don't take on everything at once.
Reversed. The day is tipping out of balance: too much work, coffee or news. Notice what exactly there's too much of. Cut one excess today and add what's missing: water, sleep, a walk.
A question for the evening: What did I have too much of today, and too little?
Descriptions follow the classic 1909 Waite–Smith deck. Card meanings help you think a situation through and don't replace advice from a doctor, lawyer or financial adviser.
