The Fool tarot card meaning

Upright
new beginnings, spontaneity, trust, freedom
Reversed
recklessness, risk without a safety net, hesitation, naivety

Yes or no: Yes Reversed: Maybe

What's on the card

A young man in a bright patterned tunic stands at the edge of a cliff, holding a white rose in his left hand and a staff with a small bundle over his shoulder. A white dog leaps at his heels under a yellow sky, with the sun and snowy mountains behind him.

The Fool upright

The Fool is about stepping into the unknown when you have no experience yet, only curiosity and freedom. The card backs a start without a full plan: a new skill, a move, a hobby, a new acquaintance. Mistakes at this stage are cheap and teach a lot. If you've long wanted to try a different career, book one intro class and notice what stays with you a week later.

The Fool reversed

The reversed Fool points to a risk nobody has counted, or to a fear that keeps pushing the start back for months. Both extremes keep you stuck. Name one worst case and decide how you could soften it before you either jump or walk away.

The Fool in love and relationships

In a couple, The Fool brings lightness: go somewhere neither of you has been, or take up something new together. If you're single, the card suggests meeting people without a checklist and without rushing to conclusions. The feelings here are sincere, though nobody is planning years ahead yet.

The Fool in career and money

At work, The Fool marks a start: a new role, a first project, a small business of your own. You have little experience, so ask questions. Before spending money on a trial run, decide in advance what amount and how many weeks you're willing to give it.

The Fool: yes or no

Yes Yes: a good moment for a first step. Start with something easy to undo, like a trial class, a short trip or a first call.

Reversed. Maybe The idea is alive, but the leap has no safety net yet. Before you agree, work out one thing: what happens if it doesn't work.

Ask a yes or no question

The Fool as your card of the day

A day to try something with little at stake. Do one unfamiliar thing you can easily undo: a new route to work, a trial class, a message to someone you've meant to talk to.

Reversed. You want to jump right in, but there's nothing to land on yet. Before the next step, answer one question: what happens if it doesn't work out? Then decide how much time and money you're willing to spend.

A question for the evening: What did I do for the first time today, and how did it go?
