What's on the card
A person sits up in bed with their face in their hands. Nine swords hang horizontally on the black wall above, and the quilt is decorated with roses and zodiac signs.
Nine of Swords upright
The Nine of Swords is about worry that is louder than what's actually happening. At night thoughts run in circles and a small problem looks huge. The swords hang on the wall and wound no one: what hurts most is the picture of what might happen. If an email to your boss keeps you awake, write down what exactly scares you and one action for the morning.
Nine of Swords reversed
The worry starts to loosen, especially once you talk about it. If it lasts for weeks and keeps you from sleeping, that's a question for a doctor, not for a card. Today, pick one person and tell them out loud what's bothering you.
Nine of Swords in love and relationships
Worry can invent things that aren't there: silence reads as coldness, a slow reply reads as a sign. Ask your partner directly instead of replaying guesses at night. If you're single, fear of rejection can stop the first step, and it helps to talk it through with a friend.
Nine of Swords in career and money
Thoughts about work follow you into the evening: a mistake, deadlines, a talk with your manager. Separate facts from guesses and write down only what has already happened. For each item, name one action for tomorrow and close the laptop until morning.
Nine of Swords: yes or no
No Not now: worry is louder than the facts. Write down what's bothering you, leave the decision until morning and reread the list in daylight.
Reversed. Maybe The worry is easing. Tell someone you trust about it: said out loud, it gets smaller.
Nine of Swords as your card of the day
Anxious thoughts are louder than usual today, especially at night. A worry on paper loses some of its power. Before bed, write down everything that bothers you, and next to it one action for tomorrow.
Reversed. The worry is slowly easing, and sleep is coming back. That's worth supporting. Tonight, put your phone away an hour before bed and tell someone what's on your mind.
A question for the evening: Which worry turned out to be needless today?
Descriptions follow the classic 1909 Waite–Smith deck. Card meanings help you think a situation through and don't replace advice from a doctor, lawyer or financial adviser.
